Company History
Regions Hospital looks a lot different than it did when we began. In 1872, we opened our doors in a stone mansion at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Colbourne Street. At the time, we only had two doctors, one ambulance and two horses to bring in patients for emergency care visits. We would admit as many patients as we could fit into the stone mansion. Over the years, we’ve grown and began to offer more treatments and services, leading to our community’s first heart surgery in 1948. Now, we have thousands of doctors and several specialty centers, including five Centers of Excellence. This makes it possible for us to care for patients across the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin. We handle more than 26,000 hospital admissions at Regions every year. Over 90,000 patients have visited our Emergency Center with the help of hundreds of ambulances. Our Surgery Center sees more than 13,000 cases per year, and another 11,000 annual cases are seen at our Same-Day Surgery Center.
