Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies (HMHB) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization that endeavors to improve the health, safety, and well-being of Montana families by supporting mothers and babies, age zero to three. Since 1984, through programs and partnerships with national, state, and local organizations, HMHB-MT has provided services, advocacy and leadership to improve the health, safety and well-being of Montana’s pregnant women, young children, families and communities through prevention, education, training, and monitoring health and health-related services. HMHB adopts and promotes systemic approaches to improve the health, safety, and well-being of Montana families by supporting mothers, babies and families with children age zero to three. HMHB coordinates public health media campaigns, operates an online resource guide and accompanying warmline for families who are expecting or raising children age zero to three, hosts a perinatal mental health conference attended by approximately 350 professionals each year, coordinates meetings and projects for multiple collaborative initiatives, and partners with medical providers and other stakeholders to educate and empower families and providers about issues impacting healthy pregnancies and early childhoods.

Position Purpose
The Storytelling and Engagement Coordinator will serve as the primary facilitator for all story collection, cultivation, engagement and sharing efforts at HMHB. Working closely with the Director of Communications and Outreach, they will ensure that all HMHB messaging and storytelling strategies are cohesive, well-coordinated, and filled with voices of lived experience.

The Coordinator will lead storytelling initiatives across the organization, serving as editor of LIFTS Magazine, host and producer of the LIFTS Podcast, and curator of lived-experience stories that highlight families, caregivers, and communities across Montana. They will work to ensure lived-
experience voices are engaged and amplified through programmatic storytelling, social media, blog writing, and other communications efforts.

Additionally, the Coordinator will support the Director of Communications and Outreach in executing the annual communications plan.

Overall Responsibilities and Expectations

Public Relations and Communication
1. Serve as the primary facilitator for all storytelling efforts for HMHB, ensuring alignment with organizational values and mission.
2. Champion storytelling and lived experience at HMHB and with our partners, supporting efforts that keep these voices actively engaged and at the heart of our programs and initiatives.
3. Uphold ethical story gathering and sharing practices that honor the lived experiences of those featured, ensuring accuracy, compassion, and integrity in all shared narratives.
4. Act as the lead liaison, content coordinator, and primary creator for LIFTS Magazine, managing content planning, production, and distribution.
5. Host, plan and produce the LIFTS Podcast, including planning the podcast season and narrative arc. Work with the Director of Communications to finalize episodes.
6. Provide training, coaching and development when working with individuals to curate their stories, photos, videos, and art across diverse platforms.
7. Raise awareness of and build support for HMHB’s mission and the population we serve through storytelling outreach activities. This could include hosting storytelling workshops, offering storytelling coaching, working on collaborations with partner organizations and more.
8. Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Outreach to coordinate and execute HMHB’s messaging and storytelling strategies.
9. Support HMHB’s programs by promoting their work through impactful storytelling, practicing care and respect when stewarding others' stories.
10. Develop and write copy as needed for social media, blogs, and other communications platforms, maintaining a consistent voice and tone aligned with HMHB’s brand.
11. Assist the Director of Communications and Outreach with the development and execution of an annual communications plan.

2. Coordinate with HMHB Staff, contractors, collaboration partners, and volunteers to execute the annual conference and special events.

Requirements

Successful Candidates will have:
1. A passion for HMHB’s mission;
2. A minimum of five years of related experience or a combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of: Storytelling; communications; stewarding lived experience; community engagement; project management software; podcasting platforms; and English usage and grammar. Expertise in audio engineering; public health, medical and behavioral health; human services; early childhood; maternal and child health; perinatal mental health; advocacy and/or related programming is preferred, but not required for success in this position.

Demonstrated Ability in: Storytelling, editing, and copywriting. Ability to build and maintain trust with individuals. Understanding of podcast equipment and software, and ability to host a podcast. Experience working with print magazines and meeting deadlines. Ability to manage emotionally challenging work while maintaining personal emotional well-being. Ability to travel throughout the state of Montana.

Physical and Environmental Demands: The position requires the ability to work independently and efficiently, exercise good judgment in a home-based or office setting, and requires sitting or standing for long periods of time. If working from the HMHB office you must be able to climb a flight of stairs, as the office is located on the second floor of a building that does not have an elevator.

Salary: This position is offered with a variable hour range of .85-1.0 FTE. The pay range is $55,000-$62,000 per year for 1.0 FTE and will be offered based on knowledge, skills, and abilities.
