JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Development / Clinical Informatics Nurse is a vital member of the clinical team, responsible for integrating staff training and development with health information technology to improve patient care and health outcomes. This role involves collaborating with clinical and operational leaders to create staff development programs and optimize the use of the Williamsburg Landing Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. The position focuses on enhancing data analytics, streamlining workflows, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing the integration, education, and optimization of the EMR system in both clinical and nonclinical environments. This role bridges the gap between clinical practice and information technology, aiming to improve both staff performance and patient outcomes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Clinical Informatics
Respond to clinical service requests related to Electronic Medical Records (EMR) functionality and access.
Collaborate with clinical leaders to analyze workflows, recommending process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and ensure resident safety through technology.
Participate in quality assurance initiatives to improve resident care and operational efficiency by gathering user requirements, conducting needs assessments, and developing specifications for clinical decision support systems.
Work with IT leadership to identify opportunities for improving the integration and functionality of clinical systems, aligning workflows and data exchanges with clinical practices.
Oversee cross-platform integrations and implement the best integration types (e.g., ADT bridges, APIs).
Ensure comprehensive system documentation, procedures, and IT staff training to support users during system changes, absences, and upgrades.
Stay informed about new Net Smart releases, collaborating with clinical colleagues to manage organizational changes, testing, implementation, training, and communication strategies that support system adoption and ensure successful integration
Conduct medical record audits to ensure compliance with policies and all Federal and State regulations.
Staff Development
Assess staff educational needs and provide targeted in-service training based on clinical observations and quality assurance data.
Collaborate with leadership to design onboarding for new employees and create annual competency tests for licensed clinical staff.
Provide education for nursing students and ensure core competencies are covered annually, including required education for CNAs and Medication Aides.
Develop and deliver user documentation and training materials for EMR systems and provide one-on-one coaching to improve staff proficiency.
Assist in analyzing clinical quality metrics to create training programs aimed at improving resident outcomes and staff efficiency.
Advise leadership on noncompliance patterns identified in audits, suggesting training and development opportunities.
Ensure that all clinical systems training, such as Relias hierarchies and learning plans, align with organizational structures and comply with healthcare regulations. This includes meeting licensure requirements for clinical staff, adhering to HIPAA standards, fulfilling abuse and mandated reporter obligations, and following all applicable state and federal regulations that govern clinical documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS
Current Commonwealth of Virginia Registered Nurse licensure, required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred; Master's in Nursing Informatics or Healthcare Informatics is a plus
5+ years of clinical nursing and staff development experience required, preferably in a long-term care or geriatric care setting
EMR configuration, technical support, and user education experience, required; API/ADT development/implementation experience, preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated expertise in EMR function and development
Thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical workflows, data management, and nursing protocols and standards
Ability to work cross functionally and collaboratively with operational and clinical leaders and third party vendors to meet technology challenges
Excellent organizational and administrative skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Ability to communicate professionally and maintain working relationships with vendors
Advanced proficiency in all elements of needs assessment, instructional design and curricula development, clinical documentation and deliverables, systems analysis and design, software testing, training, adoption, and troubleshooting
Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in area of specialty
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements and of the use of established care models in the development of education programs
Proficiency in organizational change management and proven ability to proactively identify and solve problems
Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards, including HIPAA, CMS, and other relevant guidelines.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Ability to work evening or weekend hours, to support users and meet project deadlines or system upgrades.
