Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences
Western Michigan University invites applications for the full-time, 12-month position of Clinical Faculty Specialist I in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences in Kalamazoo, MI. This term, non-tenure track, full-time, fiscal year Faculty Specialist I position will span January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027 with the potential to be renewed.
Major Duties:
Clinical supervision and mentorship of undergraduate and/or graduate students
Classroom teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences
Interprofessional and intra-professional collaboration
Professional service to department, college, university, and/or profession
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in speech-language pathology
Eligible for Michigan licensure for Speech-Language Pathology
Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA (CCC-SLP)
At least 9 months of practice experience as a speech-language pathologist post certification
Completion of 2 hours of professional development in the area of supervision and/or clinical instruction prior to start date
Expertise in pediatric speech-language pathology and/or adult neurogenic communication disorders
Desired Qualifications:
Experience supporting principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in clinical practice
Experience with university teaching through in-person and virtual platforms
Experience with program coordination
Evidence of interprofessional and intra-professional collaboration
Knowledge and experience implementing evidence-based practice
At least 2 years of experience in clinical education/supervision

The Department: The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences oversees a two-year CAA-accredited master’s degree program in speech-language pathology, which is ranked 63rd nationwide by U.S. News & World Report and 2nd in the state of Michigan. The department also an undergraduate degree in Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences, a new undergraduate certificate, and a minor in American Sign Language. All programs are supported by our Charles Van Riper Language, Speech, and Hearing Clinic as part of the interprofessional Unified Clinics and Resiliency Center for Families and Children. The department is committed to supporting cultural-linguistic diversity. Faculty are dedicated to mentoring student research, teaching, and service to the professions.
