Description
The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Staff Officer of ICEP, reporting to the ICEP Board of Directors. The ED is responsible for strategic leadership, operational management, advocacy, member services, financial sustainability, and ensuring that ICEP fulfills its mission to support emergency physicians in Illinois.

Oversee membership growth, retention, and engagement.
Ensure delivery of high-quality continuing medical education (CME) programs, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Lead communication strategies to keep members informed and engaged, including newsletters, digital platforms, and the ICEP website.
Develop digital and hybrid engagement models to serve members statewide
3. Education & Training
Direct the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational offerings such as annual meetings, seminars, workshops, and webinars.
Ensure compliance with CME accreditation standards and reporting requirements.
4. Advocacy & Public Affairs
Proactively engage in shaping statewide emergency medicine policy
Monitor and respond to state legislative, regulatory, and policy developments relevant to emergency medicine.
Collaborate with the organization’s lobbyists or government relations consultants and the Patient and Physician Advocacy Committee to represent ICEP’s policy interests.
Support the drafting of position statements, testimony, and opinion pieces.
Engage members in grassroots advocacy and develop policy positions that support emergency physicians and patients.
5. Financial Management
Develop, present, and manage the annual budget in alignment with strategic priorities.
Maintain strong financial controls, reporting, and compliance with audit standards.
Oversee state political action committee reporting and financial statements.
Diversify and sustain revenue sources, including membership dues, sponsorships, meeting revenues, grants, and partnerships.
Oversee contracts and vendor relationships.
6. Staff Leadership & Operations
Recruit, supervise, and mentor staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing workplace culture.
Oversee daily operations, including office administration, human resources, technology systems, and membership databases.
Ensure adherence to bylaws, policies, and legal compliance.
7. External Relations & Communication
Serve as an ICEP spokesperson with external audiences, including partner organizations, media, and the public.
Enhance ICEP’s visibility and reputation through strong public relations, branding, and digital strategies.
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with hospitals, medical schools, government agencies, and healthcare organizations.
maintain a strong, bidirectional relationship with national ACEP, representing ICEP at live meetings of the exec council twice a year and on regularly planned exec calls, as well as promoting and supporting ICEP members into positions in committees and leadership at the national level

Membership retention and growth.
Achievement of budget goals and financial stability.
Successful delivery of major educational events and CME programming.
Legislative or regulatory advocacy outcomes helping emergency physicians.
Increased member engagement and satisfaction.
Develop membership analytics, pipeline development ), and member value innovation
Enhanced visibility and reputation of ICEP among stakeholders.
Requirements
Required:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in non-profit management, public health, business administration, healthcare administration, or related field
5–10 years of experience in non-profit or association management, ideally in a senior level executive position within healthcare or physician membership organizations
Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, reporting, and audit oversight
Demonstrated success in advocacy, government relations, or public policy
Proven ability to develop and manage educational programs (CME, conferences, webinars)
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills; comfort with public speaking and media relations
Supervisory experience; ability to lead a small staff with diverse responsibilities
Strategic thinker with strong organizational and relationship-building skills
Preferred:
Master’s degree in business or related field (MBA, MHA, MPH, or related)
Prior work with medical or specialty societies, especially emergency medicine
Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or sponsorship development
Direct experience with state-level legislative or regulatory affairs
Knowledge of CME/MOC requirements and accreditation standards
Experience in crisis communications or public affairs
CAE (Certified Association Executive) credential
Track record of membership or revenue growth in a membership-based association
